A fin with more rake will have a wider base that leads to a narrower tip. It will also be lighter and more flexible than other pivot fins. The fin’s tip has a rake that allows it to store energy and then release it at the end of each turn.
The surfer can use the rain on the surfboard in a way that a pivot fin wouldn’t. This allows for more arcing turns and wider turns. These fins can still be used for nose riding, but they don’t hold as well as pivots.
